Sudoing a test task

(Laurent Buhler) #1

Hi,
How can I run a test task as a super user ?

I tried adding the following in the task
executable = 'sudo java
but I get an exception

  • Exception is:
    org.gradle.api.tasks.TaskExecutionException: Execution failed for task ‘:runTestsRoot’.

In an Exec task (or with project.exec {}), the executable needs to be a executable file (binary, script, etc). So when you try to use “sudo java”, the executable Gradle tries to execute is literally “sudo java”.

To run something as sudo, you want sudo to be the executable and whatever you’re running under sudo to be an argument.

Hi Sterling,

I came across your answer while looking for a solution to my problem on the Gradle Forum. This thread is old but I have not seen any newer thread on that topic. I have a similar problem, I need to execute a script that tests several things on one of our dev kits. The script tests if the toolchain is properly installed on the host (stage 1) and then tests the Kernel of the board, drivers, interfaces (Stage 2). The second stage requires admin privilege and ask for the sudo password.

On a terminal, the command is ./system_diag.sh and the result is:

==== Toolchain Stage 1 ====
 - TOOLCHAIN_DIR:
   - path xxxx
  - toolchain is present
  - yyy
[sudo] password for nicolas06:

==== Kernel  Stage 2====
- zzz

I (naively) created a task

task DiagnoseBoard(type:Exec) {
  commandLine './system_diag.sh'
}

but it does not work because the script asks for sudo privilege for stage 2 and I get the following error:
sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified

Can you help me fix that issue?
Thank you
