What's the right way to manipulate the Maven deploy repo and POM from within another plugin?

I’m trying to bake in a default Maven repository for deployment, as well as some other changes to the generated POM, from within a plugin, and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do this. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. =)
