Test Custom Task

I want to test a CustomTask which looks like this:

class CustomTask extends DefaultTask {
    @Input
    def File apk

    @OutputFile
    def File outputFile

    @TaskAction
    void sizeApk() {
        // Some magic here
    }
}

This is my test:

@Test
public void testCustomTask() {
    Project project = ProjectBuilder.builder().build()
    CustomTask task = project.task('customTask', type: CustomTask)
    task.apk = null
    task.outputFile = null

    project['customTask'].execute()
}

The problem is that I get an exception when running this test:

org.gradle.api.tasks.TaskValidationException: Some problems were found with the configuration of task ā€˜:apkSizeā€™.

Cause 1: org.gradle.api.InvalidUserDataException: No value has been specified for property ā€˜apkā€™.
Cause 2: org.gradle.api.InvalidUserDataException: No value has been specified for property ā€˜outputFileā€™.

Although I did supply those properties. If you guys want I can give you the complete stacktrace (I shortened it)

Iā€™ve found some other threads on this issue but they are all closed and super old hence Iā€™ll ask this again.

If an input or output is set to null value, it is considered to be not
set. If you want to support those scenarios you have to additionally
mark these properties as @Optional

Okay thanks for that. Letā€™s say I output stuff to the terminal in the task, how can I verify that? My helper method is this one:

private void withStyledOutput(StyledTextOutput.Style style, LogLevel level = null, @ClosureParams(value = SimpleType, options = ['org.gradle.logging.StyledTextOutput']) Closure closure) {
    def factory = services.get(StyledTextOutputFactory)
    def output = level == null ? factory.create('customtask') : factory.create('customtask', level)

    closure(output.withStyle(style))
}

And then in the task action Iā€™d call it:

@TaskAction
void sizeApk() {
    withStyledOutput(StyledTextOutput.Style.Info) { out ->
        out.println("Some output")
    }
}

I want to test that the output is actually ā€œSome outputā€ in my unit test.
