groovy.lang.GroovyRuntimeException: Conflicting module versions after upgrading to Gradle 4.0

We have a Groovy project in which we develop some Gradle plugins. The dependencies section of its build file contains

dependencies
{
	compile localGroovy()
	// ...
}

After upgrading to Gradle 4.0, a cradle clean build ends prematurely with the following exception:

org.gradle.api.tasks.TaskExecutionException: Execution failed for task ':compileGroovy'.

Caused by: groovy.lang.GroovyRuntimeException: Conflicting module versions. Module [groovy-all is loaded in version 2.4.11 and you are trying to load version 2.4.7
        ... 15 more

The only way we found to avoid this exception is to add

configurations.all
{
	resolutionStrategy
	{
		force 'org.codehaus.groovy:groovy-all:2.4.11'
	}
}

Is that really the way to go? Could it be that in Gradle 4.0 localGroovy() pulls in the wrong version, or is there another solution?

I guess one of your other dependencies also pulls in the Groovy runtime. Could you provide a build scan so I can see which dependency it is?
The solution is basically to force the dependency as you did or exclude Groovy from the other dependency.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan! You pointed into the exact direction. We had org.jfrog.buildinfo:build-info-extractor-gradle:4.4.18 in the dependency graph, which depends on org.codehaus.groovy:groovy-all:2.4.7.
